Used car valuation experts at CAP Motor Research predict that the Mazda RX8, will still retain almost 40 per cent of its new car retail price. The 192ps model for £21,150 and the 231ps for £22,650 with three-years/60,000 miles, can now see earier models reaching used car forecourts and retailing at £10,150 upwards.
Latest CAP data shows that fleets taking delivery of a 192ps model today will see it worth £8,150 (39%) at disposal time at, while a 231ps derivative will be worth £8,925 (39%).
Jeff Knight, forecast manager for CAP, said: “The RX8 continues to have driver appeal. Although it has been on the roads for four years the car continues to have a ‘wow’ factor as it looks good and is completely different in styling from any other model.”
While the Mazda RX8 remains the cost-effective choice for fleet decision-makers and benefit-in-kind tax paying company car drivers compared with two-door coupes and ‘hot’ saloons from competitive manufacturers such as Audi, BMW, Honda, Subaru, Toyota and Vauxhall, secondhand car price watchers say the car is also value for money for prospective used car buyers.
Referring to Mazda’s ‘clever coupe’ and its attractiveness to secondhand buyers with early examples costing just over £10,000, Auto Express reported (28 February, 2007): “That’s not bad when you consider its fantastic rear-wheel drive handling is the envy of many motors costing twice the price. Later examples also look good value. I can’t think of anything that offers so much style and performance for so little money.”
“The RX8 continues to attract motorists from both the premium four-door saloon market as well as from the two-seat car sector as it is both aspirational and desirable from the perspectives of fleet decision-makers and company car drivers.
